New Year's Eve

In the spirit of year's end, and so I can say I posted twice in 2010 (such frivolity!) here's a post. I am re-dedicating myself to writing more on here this year. Y'know, between writing for work, going to school, playing in a band, working 4 part-time jobs, producing a play, and eating lunch.

My motivation to post today is not completely born of goodness. Someone I don't like very much posts pretty regularly to their blog and the affrontery of it goaded me enough to write.
So here's Nate at the end of 2010.

I'm going back to college in a week. It'll be the first time in 3.5 years that I've been a real college student. I'm going to Utah Valley University instead of BYU, due to them having a better film program. BYU's film department actually encouraged me to go to UVU, admitting I'd get more experience there. So, a wolverine I'll been. I'll have to start growing my chops now.

I bought a drumset! Despite not having money for it, I found a ridiculously good priced set and bought it on my poor, worn out credit card. Now I can actually market myself as a drummer. I'm still playing in Image Down, but I want to start another band too and play my style of music.

Work: I'm still writing for BlueGlass Interactive, in addition to Ascendgence, LLC. I teach acting for teenagers at a theatre in Utah Valley, and I really like that job. I'm starting a 4th job soon at the Provo Beach Resort. I didn't think Provo had a beach nor a resort, but it's a pretty rad place. Think of the Nickelcade on steriods.

I saw myself on the big screen for the first time. I acted in the indie film Demon Chicken http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWq-H2X9HOg and got to play several roles. Fun fun fun fun fun. Even better, I've finally found a new group of people who love to make movies like I do. While my films were apostolic (made without purse or script, ha ha) they actuall do it legit-style. Fingers crossed for future collaborations.

When I get back to teaching this semester, I'm unveiling to my students the play we're doing this semester: I Hate Shakespeare! Looking forward to it. I'm excited to see all the potential in my class come out on stage.

Well, Happy New Year's everyone. 2009 sucked, but 2010 was a lot better. It had some heartache, a bajillion learning experiences and even more answered prayers. For New Year's, (except for this year. The family's not doing the normal traditions. I'm sad :( we make funny hats and go around the house making a racket to drive the evil spirits out (Taiwanese tradition) Anyway, for 2010 I made a hat with a little house with balloons on top, and put a man, a boy, a dog, and a giraffe in it to symbolize the characters from UP! with a sign on it that said "Moving up in 2010!" It really came true. Here's hoping 2011 will see me reaching full Nate-capacity. Loves and hugs.

Sunny Sunday Afternoon

It's almost been a year. I say I wanna be a writer, and I take a 10 month break between blogs. In my defense, I've been writing notes on facebook, and I get paid to write for a SEO out of SLC. FRRL.

So what's new with me? I just was accepted by Brigham Young University, for the second time. I'm a Latter Day Saint, so I'm excited to be going back there.

Let's talk about money. Paul may have been right that it won't buy love, but it buys pretty much everything else. If money doesn't buy love, but you have to have it for food, rent, etc etc, I think that if you're poor you're entitled to be in love. That should be part of the next welfare bill: If you live below the poverty line, we will help you find your soulmate.

On a totally unrelated subject, I'm saving for a car. With the car haggling skills I learned at the feet of my brilliant father, I had the dealer eating out of my had. That red 2007 Yaris with 28,000 on it, for 8 grand with 8% and nothing down was going to be mine, until they stinkin sold it two days before I came back in. They tried to win my love again, but I left. I still have Roxanna, my beautiful 150cc girlfriend. She's the lady in my life.

Still playing music: bass guitar in a jazz trio, drums in a rock band (myspace.com/imagedown) and I play my passion out on the piano. Those close to me know when they hear notes being belted out from below my apartment, Nate's got something on his mind.

Off to Texas this weekend to direct two shows with my old theatre. "Death By Shakespeare" wherein the participants (9-14 yr olds) get to perform the great death scenes from Shakespeare. I'm pysched. I should prep....

Went to church today, gospel is still true.

If you want to see what I've been writing in the interim, go read my notes on facebook. I'm proud of those.

Adventure is Out There!
